Ferrite content

We use Feritscope MP30 manufactured by Helmut Fischer Group to measure the percentage of ferrite content in ferritic welds. The device is calibrated on the basis of a calibration block provided by the manufacturer. Ferrite content testing is mostly performed on welded joints of austenitic steel. The process of mixing an acid-resistant, austenitic weld metal with a low-carbon, ferritic-pearlitic weld metal takes place while welding acid-resistant, austenitic homogenous steel with clad steel, whose base is of ferritic-pearlitic structure. The technology applied and welding materials selected should guarantee a weld with ferrite content ranging from 2 to 8% if welding is performed manually and up to 10% with automatic welding.
