Fatigue testing

Fatigue testing describes the phenomenon of material cracking under the influence of cyclically varying stresses. Fatigue loads vary in time and are typical for various machinery parts and components. The corresponding stresses are called variable stresses or fatigue stresses.

They allow to determine fatigue strength - the limit amplitude of stresses below which the material is not destroyed for a given number of cycles (the number is the result of a single fatigue test).

It is estimated that fatigue damages constitute up to 90% of all damages to the moving parts of machinery destroyed in operation.
